What’s in a weekly box?

The staff currently work with local farms within a 500 mile radius of New Orleans  to get the best variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs. Each box contains produce that is generally adequate for two adults who cook frequently, or for a small family who are trying to get more fresh produce into their diets. We strive to provide between 10-15 different types of produce each week. Generally, members can expect to have a box filled with many types of veggies and 2-3 types of fruit depending on the season. Produce is subject to change based on availability.


How is the Buyers’ Club different from a CSA (community supported agriculture) program?

We view the program as a modified-CSA, but there are a few key differences. Instead of working with one farmer, and selling shares of a season or year’s worth of crops, we focus on supporting many local farmers who may not have the traditional crop diversity to support the standard CSA model.

Members are not required to pre-purchase or pick up a box every week as they generally are in CSAs. We welcome members to purchase a weekly box however often they like.

How do I join?

Where and when are the boxes distributed?

We hold distribution every Saturday from 10am-2pm at the Hollygrove Market & Farm, located at 8301 Olive Street, New Orleans, LA 70118. Many residents of New Orleans will remember the site as the former Guillot’s Nursery. As the program and store site progress we will explore options of different pick up times.

When you arrive:

Every customer will be greeted upon arrival and asked if they need a box. We prefer you BYOB (Bring your own bag/box). However, if you need a box we ask that you return your box to help keep costs low.

Once you have received your box there are series of tables with fresh local Louisiana produce, regional (Mississippi), and national organic (when available) in each bin. Each bin has appropriate signage with prescribed amounts because of availability we ask that you take only prescribed amounts for each item in each bin doing so ensures that there is enough for everyone. If you would like to exchange one item for another please be sure to wait until you have reached the exchange table

What is the exchange table?

The exchange table is a separate table and is located at the end of line after you have filled your box with the produce from the bins. Here you may want to exchange one item for another item based on prescribed amounts as long as it is on the exchange table.

Example: If you would like to exchange your 1 head of cabbage for tomatoes please be sure to check the prescribed amounts for each item. If there is something you would like and it is not on the table please do not return to the line and exchange there. Ask for assistance.

These guidelines allow Hollygrove Market & Farm to ensure that there is enough for everyone.

Can you accommodate my dietary restrictions?

Absolutely! While part of the Buyers’ Club experience is the fun of not knowing what is in your weekly box until pick up, we do understand that some members may be allergic or unable to consume certain types of food. If you would like us to not include certain items, please send your preferences  to Info@HollygroveMarket.org and we will do our best to find replacements for your box.

    Hi
    I am hoping to come to the market for the first time this weekend. Have been wanting to come for a long time but live an hour away. Can I pre-purchase via the Pay Pal link and pick the box up on Saturday, along with any extras still available for purchase. I will not be able to make it until about 12 or 1and am concerned it will sell out before I arrive.
